About the ESPG
The ESPG is a student society that's here to support postgraduate students and staff in Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
The ESPG was established as an GSA affiliated group to support postgraduate students in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne. The committee is building on the tireless efforts of previous years' committees to continue to support students, staff and other Earth Science enthusiasts.
The ESPG run a range of events and services to provide social and academic support to students. In the past we have run Industry Panels, Trivia, morning teas and competitions. See more details on our Events page.
We're here to support postgraduate students and provide opportunities.
The aims of the ESPG are:
- To provide academic support and welfare to the postgraduates of the School.
- To promote social interaction between all postgraduates within the School, the entire faculty and wider university community.
- To foster communication of research ideas and collaborations.
- To support the academic endeavors of postgraduate students and to act as a representative group of graduates within the School.
Meet the Committee
The ESPG committee is made up of students who are keen to support you. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining the committee or helping out with our events.

Andrew Tsiatsikas
President
Hi! I am Andrew and I am a Master's student studying marine microfossils (foraminifera) and facies to understand the mid Miocene environmental change in the Otway Basin (southeast Australia). A/Prof. Stephen Gallagher is my supervisor. I am thrilled to be part of the ESPG as a president and am eager to contribute to the society's positive impact on everyone.

Jireh Teo
Treasurer
Hello hello, my name is Jireh (Jai-Ray). I'm an international PhD student from Singapore, currently under A/Prof Stephen Gallagher's team. My PhD project involves using microfossils and borehole data from under the 12 Apostles to reconstruct ancient climates. My favourite mineral is pyrite and my hobbies include procrastinating. Come join the ESPG and meet your fellow rock nerds!

Paul Gravis
Secretary
Paul is a second year PhD student who is studying climate and climate features in the Pliocene epoch. In his spare time he enjoys being in nature and being active.

Grace Manestar
General Member
Hello! My name is Grace (She/Her), a PhD candidate in the Isotope Geochemistry Group supervised by Dr. Brandon Mahan. My project focuses on developing a workflow-optimised protocol for sample preparation and separation of Sr from water samples using both conventional IEC and automated high pressure ion chromatography (HPIC), for subsequent analysis via MC-ICP-MS. I'm thrilled to be part of ESPG and can't wait to bond with you all at the upcoming events. Together, we'll have a stable and strong connection, just like isotopes in their perfect state!
